Why Do We Laugh?

Why do we laugh? People usually say that we laugh because something, or someone is funny. But what one person finds funny, another may find offensive. If something is funny, shouldn't we all laugh? Yes, but in reality, that never happens. This makes me think that there is a deeper meaning to why we laugh.
